Biography
Giuseppe Gonella (b. 1984, Motta di Livenza, Italy) began his artistic journey in the workshop of his father, a painter, glass and mosaic art. He later continued his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, graduating in 2008. In 2006, he was awarded a scholarship by the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, which provided him with his first studio. After his time in Venice, he lived and worked in New York, Leipzig, Berlin, and Lisbon, where he established two studios and alternated working periods between Portugal and Germany. Through numerous international solo and group exhibitions, he consolidated his artistic practice. In 2020, he returned permanently to Berlin, where he currently lives and works.
His painting, constantly evolving, is enriched by the contact with the different cultural contexts that have influenced him. He explores rituals, dreams and fears, leading the viewer through dystopias and mysterious landscapes with uncertain horizons, transforming memories into modern allegories. Painting becomes for him an open space where past and future intertwine, and each painting invites reflection on the constant transformation of existence. His research into the human condition evolves between introspection and the desire for freedom.
